Movie Madness

Movie Reviews: The Good, The Strange & The Chick Flicks

Ah the holidays! Movies, eat, movies, eat, movies... Yes, there were gifts and traditions and much laughter and joy but oh those movies. So you know I saw "Black Swan" being the dancer I am but psycho-sexual gory thrillers are not what I go to the ballet for. Then there was the proverbial chick flick "How Do You Know". I know this is not worth seeing as I am the queen of chick flicks and well, let's just say, this does not meet the ultra high standards of most, kidding, kidding. OK, so let's try "The Tourist" with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. I actually really liked this movie. I'm not sure why everyone is so ga ga for Depp when I couldn't take my eyes off the spectacular beauty of Jolie...and I'm not gay. Then capped off the holidays with "The Kids Are Alright", speaking of gay, it's about a Lesbian couple and their family and was a fabulous movie with Annette Bening and what's her name, oh for Pete's sake, look it up, I'm too tired to, I've watched too many movies and eaten too much food.

Black Swan...are you kidding me?

OK, I love Natalie Portman and she should definitely win the Oscar for this performance but...I don't know what you call this, erotic, violent, stranger than fiction movie. I sorta knew but was drawn to it due to my dance background. Yes, like all young dancers I aspired to be a prima ballerina. Well, I got the prima but not the ballerina part:-) My neck and legs did not grow as long as they needed to be instead I got shapely and more conducive to jazz, tap and eventually Latin Dance that I did and still do. So dear readers, if I were to recommend a movie during this heavy holiday movie season, this would not be the one. I think I'll stick to Miracle on 34th St. The Gen X's are saying, what?

Your Network is Important to Your Net Worth

So just where exactly did networking come from?

I'm giving a speech on networking tomorrow and it's all fresh in my head and wondering where your head is in regard to that topic? We hear so much about "social networking" that many of us have lost the art and science of "human networking", a trend that dates back to the 1980's when first initiated in NYC. A YIPPIE turned YUPPIE stockbroker names Jerry Rubin went to the owner of the hip nightclub, Studio 54, Steve Rubell and suggested being the club didn't open till midnight and NYC was the mecca of businesspeople leaving work at 5 everyday, why not throw them in a room with a little cheap wine and cheese and see what would result. Perhaps a business deal or the very least a date. That was the origin of networking.

We've come a long way, baby as the saying goes and those of us, "moi" who have practiced this skill know it is THE way to build a business and then some. I can honestly say that most of my entrepreneurial endeavors are the result of networking. So get on out there and meet people, connect, set goals, form reciprocal relationships, be tenacious and enhance your net worth.

If you're interested in hearing more of my tips on networking, here is an article I wrote that appeared in Success Track magazine. Check it out!

That could have been the longest run on sentence ever. Entertain, cook, decorate my home, life is good:-) Have an outrageous week!
